Joaquim Magalhães da Cunha, 57, a graduate computer engineer from University of Minho is the current CEO of Health Cluster Portugal (www.healthportugal.com), a hub for competitiveness in health whose objective is the promotion and implementation of initiatives and activities leading to the consolidation of a national cluster for competitiveness, innovation and technology with an international outlook, and to promote and foster cooperation between companies, organizations, universities and public entities with a market view in the economic areas related to health and to the improvement of health care.
A significant part of his professional career was dedicated to CASO – Consultores Associados de Organizações e Informática, Lda (www.caso.pt), a company that he founded in 1983 and has been its CEO. It is a consultancy and software business that integrates the knowledge and expertise in the fields of engineering, computing, management, economics and training. Over the past 10 years, the global investment associated to the projects where CASO has been involved accounts for more than 150 million Euros.
He was also founder of MinhoDigital SA, a regional cluster expediency in the ICT sector, and Nanologic the first Portuguese company fully dedicated to the development and production of parts and tools for micro and nano technologies. From 2004 to 2006 he integrated the board of Pronefro – Produtos Nefrológicos, SA, a medical device company working on the haemodialysis sector.
